5 coconut oil uses you didn’t know about
So you’ve bought your favorite jar of Cocofly’s Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, and you’ve been mixing, blitzing and melting it into just about everything you’ve been eating, drinking and spreading. But if you’re looking for some non-food ways to immerse yourself in the good stuff, check out this list of unconventional uses of coconut oil that will have you experimenting for a long time to come:
1. Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing coconut oil in your mouth for 10-20 minutes. Coconut oil can essentially get rid of the bacteria that cause cavities, decay, plaque, and other gum diseases. Oil pulling is also a popular method for teeth whitening. If you want to try oil pulling, you can read all about in our article here.
2. Make-up Remover
Coconut oil is an excellent organic make-up remover. Even waterproof make-up can't hold out against coconut oil. Apply it directly to your skin by using a cotton pad, and let it sit for a while. Clean the face with cotton wool or a wet tissue.
3. Face scrub
A mixture of coconut oil with a few essential oils and sugar makes an amazing face scrub. It cleans the skin and makes it softer. This DIY face scrub is cheaper than most of the face scrubs available in the market. For an aromatic twist, replace the sugar with roughly ground coffee!
4. Bath oil
Coconut oil is known for its moisturizing properties. Using it as a bath oil makes skin soft and smooth. Add a scoop of coconut oil along with some Epsom salt to your bathwater and see the magic yourself.
5. Wound healer
The MCTs in coconut oil are naturally anti-microbial and have been seen to help wounds recover faster. Coconut oil can also prevent cuts from scarring to the same extent. Just apply coconut oil regularly to the wounded area and allow it to heal naturally.
